Old and new

Was watching the Face of fact video yet again, and thought of the other song that really worked well with fighter planes - the venerable F14 Tomcat in this case and of course, Tom Cruise in his younger days: I didn't embed the original Kenny Loggins video cos it was really cheesy , even for me. Posting the above-mentioned Face of Fact video here again to juxtapose the old and the new:

Will you pay for content?

"I say this not because I am "evil," which is the description my daughter slings at those who want to charge for their Web content, music or apps. Instead, I say this because my daughter is very creative, and when she gets older, I want her to get paid for producing really neat stuff rather than come to me for money or decide that it makes more sense to be an investment banker." Good read from "How to save your newspaper" by Walter Isaacson

Fun activity: 1 - click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. 2 - click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. 3 - click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. 4 - Use photoshop or similar to put it all together. I got this: Try it!

WTF moment today

"In a recent study conducted by marketing agency OgilvyOne Asia Pacific, more than one in two Singaporeans said they trust blogs as much as newspapers or TV news bulletins." Full story here .

What a waste of human potential ... :(

Olivia Ong: How insensitive

Cold rainy night, candlelight, whiskey on the rocks.

Never the twain shall meet

Read a particularly insightful blog entry by BBC's Beijing correspondent about the yawning chasms between the rich and the poor, the old and the young. Having your life's options limited, just because of where and when you're born, is a rather sobering thought. My belief that people all across the world being fundamentally the same has been shaken. Given the vastly different circumstances people live and die in, is there truly any common ground? "The problem that China now faces can be summed up in the difference between this father and son. The father, in his worn-out clothes, grew up during famine and revolution. His main hope has simply been to survive. The son, in jeans and smarter shoes, has grown up during peace and expansion. His hope has been for a better life. Now for the first time, there's a problem." http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/jamesreynolds/2009/01/chinas_generation_gap.html

Today's new phrase

fait accompli a thing accomplished and presumably irreversible.

This dude is my inspiration ...

Ben Stiller's body suit is wicked in this one. 8-song mashup ... omg.

The business of irrelevance

Does entertainment have to mean anything, or even tell a story? Or are we bombarded with so much narrative that sometimes it's just refreshing to say nothing at all, other than to 搏君子一笑? BTW, her name is Olivia Munn , my favourite internet star for the moment!
