Monster Hunter World tips: Pre and post-hunt checklist

Pre-hunt checklist
  1. Have I eaten yet? Eating is important for buffs, here's a guide on what to cook and what to eat.

  2. Do I have the right equipment equipped for the monster I’m hunting? Check the upcoming monster's weaknesses in your Hunter's Journal or here.

Here's a handy chart with their main elemental weaknesses (most common weaknesses are Water and Thunder):

  3. Does my item pouch only have what I need? Use Item Loadouts to quickly equip what you need, and unload loot from your previous hunt.

Note: Item loadouts also save your radial menu. So remember to save your item loadout after customising your radial menu - or you'll lose it when you next load your loadout.

  4. Are my bounty slots all filled? If not head to Research Centre and take on more bounties.

  5. If playing with others, have we agreed on whether to capture or kill the target? If capturing, make sure you have these: Shock Trap (or Pit Trap) and Tranq Bombs. Here's a guide on capturing monsters.

Post-hunt checklist
  1. Check in completed bounties at Research Centre, take on new bounties - make sure all your bounty slots are filled:

  2. Check in your ecological findings:

  3. Check your fertilisers and pick up harvests at Botanical Research

  4. Check Captain's stock if he's back

  5. Head to your room if your Tailraider Safari has returned. Pick up their loot and deploy a new safari - here's where to send your Tailraiders.

  6. Head to the Smithy if you've secured the mats in your wishlist. Make new gear for yourself AND your Palico!

  7. Check your map for yellow exclamation marks, pick them all up for optional quests. Don't forget to check the Research Base too! Optional quests are useful for increasing the number of ingredients available in the Canteen, unlocking other quests and other rewards.

  8. Optional: Pet Poogie, earn his trust and pick up his costumes! Btw, the final costume, Emperor’s New Duds, can only be obtained after Xeno'jiva hunt.
